The Lord called Karen to come home on Saturday, October 8, 2016 while in her Brentwood home. Karen was born April 16, 1945 in Winnipeg, Manitoba- Canada to Lillian (Pinky) Ingram and John Mitchell Ingram. The Ingram family emigrated from Winnipeg to Hayward, CA in 1952. Karen graduated from Mt. Eden High School-Hayward in1963, and thereafter, she attended Cal State Hayward for her general education while she was seeking purpose in her life. It was during a vacation in the summer of 1968 back to Winnipeg with her sister, that Karen met Wayne Barker. Wayne was a widower with two small children, Kimberly and James, and Karen quickly stepped up to the role of Mother. Karen and Wayne wed on August 9, 1969 and in 1971, the Barker family welcomed a baby boy, Erin John Barker. Career wise, Karen spent most of her employment as an Administrator, working for Sears & Robuck (Winnipeg & California), Montgomery Wards, and at Pac-Bell in Fremont. She was active in all of her children's sports and extra-curricular activities while working tirelessly to provide a wonderful home for her new family; setting an example of strong ethics, values and integrity for her children. Karen was a Lioness in the Union City Lions club for many years and enjoyed serving as their youth leader. In 1997, Karen and Wayne moved to Clayton. They divorced a few years later, but remained friends. Karen always loved nature: having the opportunity to live on Morgan Territory Road for over 16 years was a blessing to her. Living in Clayton with a fresh start brought her to The Clayton Community Church where she found solace and purpose. She was very active in the Church and was very involved in Women of the Word (WOW) as well as the Young at Heart group. Her weekly Bible studies along with her work at the Contra Costa Women's Detention and Enrichment facility were very important to her. In 2002, she went with her church on a Mission to the Ukraine to help and support a local Orphanage which speaks to the beautiful soul that she was. Karen will be missed by all that knew her. She is pre-deceased by her parents and leaves behind her sister, Ardith Wallace and brother in law, Ralph Wallace. She also leaves behind her daughter, Kimberly MacFarlane (Steve), son, James Barker (Elaine) and son, Erin Barker (Jacquie). She leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren whom she adored and whom adored her: Brandon MacFarlane, Dustin MacFarlane, Kyle Plant, Justin Barker, Ryan Barker and Evan Barker. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Clayton Community Church offices 6055 Main St., Clayton, CA 94517 on Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at 1:00pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Arthritis Foundation in her memory: donate.arthritis.org. An interment date at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward will be posted at www.brentwoodfuneral.com in the near future.
